SHPE Indiana History

We are SHPE Indiana and are part of Region 6 of the SHPE National organization. Our chapter was founded in 2006 by Lourdes Palacio, Ruben Barron, Ana Dawes, and Marna Renteria. All of them are successful engineers working for the most prominent companies in Indiana. The SHPE Indiana chapter was established to create a networking group of Hispanic engineers who will serve as role models to the growing Hispanic community in Indiana. SHPE Indiana seeks to provide networking opportunities to its members, link engineering professionals and students with technology companies, and provide career development tools and opportunities for members of our group.

For over ten years, we have become the leading and only organization in the State of Indiana fostering STEM education among young Hispanics, hosting a variety of technology and scientific events with the best technology companies, and awarding scholarships to Hispanic students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Moreover, SHPE Indiana has been instrumental in helping create new college student chapters and pioneers in establishing several junior SHPE High School chapters, planting early seeds for future engineers and scientists. We are very proud of our accomplishments, but our journey is long. Join our chapter and help us make our vision a reality.
