Our Mission
SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.

Our Vision
SHPE’s vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.

History of SHPE Indiana
We are SHPE Indiana and are part of Region 6 of the SHPE National organization. Our chapter was founded in 2006 by Lourdes Palacio, Ruben Barron, Ana Dawes and Marna Renteria. All of them are successful engineers working for the most prominent companies in the State Indiana. The SHPE Indiana chapter was established with the idea of creating a networking group of Hispanic engineers who will serve as role models to the growing Hispanic community in the State of Indiana. SHPE Indiana seeks to provide networking opportunities to its members, serve as a link between engineering professionals and students with technology companies as well as to provide career development tools and opportunities to members of our group.

For over 10 years we have become the leading and only organization in the State of Indiana fostering STEM education among young Hispanics, hosting a variety of technology and scientific events with the best technology companies and awarded scholarships to Hispanic students pursuing careers in science and engineering. Moreover, SHPE Indiana has been instrumental in helping create new college student chapters as well as pioneers in establishing several junior SHPE High School chapter, planting early seeds for future engineers and scientists. We are very proud of what we have done so far but our journey is long. Join our chapter and help us make our vision a reality.

SHPE History
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the City of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. The concept of networking was the essential basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.

SHPE is the leading social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math and science. For detailed information about SHPE as a national organization visit www.shpe.org.
